Once the conference was complete, my first stop was Vero Beach where I would spend the night. The traffic in central Florida was much heavier than I anticipated so the drive was rather arduous. When I finally arrived in Vero Beach, I checked into my hotel and set out to explore the Treasure Coast. This part of Florida faces the Atlantic ocean and is quite beautiful but heavily developed with houses and hotels. After some searching, I found a fishing location on Hutchinson Island. It was a beautiful flat that contained plenty of jumping redfish and various marine birds, but it required constant movement since the mud tended to cement stationary objects. I was able to throw flies for a couple of unsuccessful hours, but the setting made up for the lack of catch.
