Taneum Creek offers a select number of good spots right along the river. It is located between Cle Elum and Ellensburg and actually lies quite close to the American River, so it shares the same dry topography of the leeward side of the Cascades.
There is one main road that follows Taneum Creek and it can be accessed from either Cle Elum or from the more convenient Elk Heights Road. The creek is fairly small so fishing access is limited, but the camping sites are of high quality. More spots can be found south of the stream as FS3300 gains elevation. The spots here do not have water but they are still pretty good and close to Taneum Lake. The lake requires about a one mile hike. Taneum Creek is located in prime mountain biking country. The trail which follows the north fork is a challenging and beautiful ride. There are a number of other trails and roads that can be biked as well. However, the area is also popular with motorcycle rides so there is some competition. The trails can be pretty torn up after heavy use. Located.on the I-90 corridor, Taneum Creek is fairly close by and offers a number of things to do. It is a short trek suitable for a long weekend or a multi-day camping trip. |
